APEC RO-PERM Water filter reviews

The APEC RO-PERM is a specially designed reverse osmosis filtration system that is perfect for those of you with low water pressure. In order for RO systems to function correctly, moderate water pressure is desired, so Apec has included a permeate pump to increase the PSI to a standard level. The APEC RO-PERM is the same RO system as the Apec RO-90 with the exception of the permeate pump.

Best APEC ROES-50 Water filter reviewsThe ROES-50 by Apec is a premium 5 stage reverse osmosis system that is built in the USA. Apec is known to use only top quality materials and a lasting design that is backed with great customer reviews and certifications. They have also been perfecting the art of reverse osmosis for nearly 17 years. APEC designed the filters in the ROES-50 to be long lasting and maintenance free, only requiring replacement every 6-12 months depending on your water supplies quality. The installation of the ROES-50 and the RO-90 are simple and easy and only require a couple tools and very basic handy skills so there is no need to call the plumber. I’d recommend the ROES-50 if you’re looking for a great quality reverse osmosis system from Apec and don’t need the 90 gallon per day flow rate of the RO-90.

The Technology Behind the 5-Stages

Apec has developed an extremely high quality 5-stage filtration system that was designed and created from nearly 17 years of research and experience. The 5-stage filtration system was designed for maximum filtration power with a longer filter life than your average reverse osmosis water filtration system. Most reverse osmosis systems will generally only filter up to 2000 gallons of average water, where the Apec reverse osmosis system will treat up to 4000-5000 gallons of water.

The Apec 5-stage technology begins with their patented high capacity extruded solid carbon blocks that consist of activated carbon particles. This method of construction allows for water to flow from outside to inside and prevents channeling, which can lead to contaminants to pass through the carbon filter. Since it is a solid carbon block, there are no chances for carbon particles to pass through and prevent the system from running optimally.

Apec has also designed a high rejection reverse osmosis membrane that boasts the highest impurity and contaminant removal rate out of anyone else in the industry. Most reverse osmosis systems generally only remove 80-95% of contaminants and have a filter life of only 1-2 years where Apec delivers a 98%-99% removal rate coupled with a 4-7 year filter life, which means you’ll be changing the filter in your Apec half as much.

Reverse Osmosis System Installation

The installation on these Apec products does not require a call to your local plumber, which will save you a generous amount of cash. If you have basic handyman skills and like DIY projects, than this should be any easy install for you. According to all the customer reviews I’ve read, installation should take no more than 1-2 hours.

The first part of the installation process is really just deciding on where you would like to put all of the components to the reverse osmosis system. There are quite a few filters and hoses that come along with most reverse osmosis systems and generally take up quite a bit of room under the sink. The best strategy is to take your time to create the best possible space saving layout but still be able to access all of the filters, making it much easier on yourself when it comes time for a filter change. It’s best to clear everything out from under sink and then mark where you are planning to put things. The better you are planned out the easier it will be to install and to do a filter change.

Now that you’ve planned out exactly where you are going to put all the components to your Apec reverse osmosis system, its time to gather your tools. You’ll need a Phillips head screwdriver, a power drill with a ¼” and a ½” bit, an adjustable wrench, and a bucket. You’ll need some Teflon tape as well, but Apec includes this in the package.

So now you’ve planned out where everything is going and have gathered all your tools, it is time to begin the installation process! Apec provides clear thorough step-by-step instructions that are easy to read and simple to follow. Apec also includes quick connect fittings that are much easier to install than standard fittings and will also save you on time.

Once you new Apec reverse osmosis system is installed you’ll need to fill the tank completely and then drain it before you start using your new system, I would do this process twice. While you are filling and draining, use this time to check for drips and leaks at all of the connection joints, housings, fittings and tubing connections. Once you have thoroughly checked for leaks and drips, your new Apec reverse osmosis system is ready to use!

Benefits of APEC Reverse Osmosis Systems

Apec has really worked hard to combat the issues and disadvantages of most reverse osmosis water filtration systems. A common complaint of the reverse osmosis systems is that they take a very long time to produce filtered water leaving you waiting by the faucet for a clean glass of filtered water. Some systems can even take up to 4 hours to produce just one gallon of filtered water.  Apec has designed their system to be incredibly efficient and timely when it comes to the filtration process. The Apec model RO-90 that I reviewed earlier can filter up to 90 gallons of water per day, which translates to almost 4 gallons of water per hour! Even Apec’s smaller systems can still produce 2 gallons of filtered water per hour.

Another great benefit to the Apec reverse osmosis systems is it’s long lasting, low maintenance filters. Depending on the Apec model, the filters can last as long as an entire year, only requiring a filter change once annually. That means less maintenance, and easier on the wallet. Not only do the filters have an extremely long life, they also filter up to 15% percent more contaminates and impurities than other leading brands.

Disadvantages

Although the Apec reverse osmosis systems perform optimally, there are a few disadvantages of reverse osmosis system in general. One of the most popular complaints is the amount of wastewater reverse osmosis systems produce. The reverse osmosis system uses a few gallons of water to rinse and clean the membrane of impurities and contaminants that were filtered out.  This keeps the membrane clean and performing optimally. However, the industry standard for wastewater is a 1:4 ratio. Which translates to 4 gallons of wastewater for 1 gallon of filtered water. Although Apec has made their systems more efficient by lowering it to a 3:1 ratio, it is still wastewater.

Another complaint about the reverse osmosis systems is that it takes too long for the filtration process. It can take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours to filter on gallon water for some of the other leading brands. Apec has reduced this time significantly to almost 4 gallons per hour with Apec RO-90 and about 2 gallons an hour with the ROES-50.

Our Recommendation – Here’s What We Think

Although there are some disadvantages to the reverse osmosis filtration system, I believe that it is still one of the most effective ways to filter water thoroughly. And when it comes to choosing a brand, you can’t go wrong with Apec. If you’ve got a larger family or need a significant amount of filtered water than I would go with the Apec RO-90. If you are willing to spend a little more cash on the Apec RO-90, you will not be disappointed.
